This three unit collection is designed to engage students in creating progressively more complex visual problems and solutions as they explore and experiment with mixed-media to communicate their ideas about identity, who they are and who they will become. Each unit builds upon the previous one to create continuing exploration of a theme and skill development.

Influences of Self Identity and Empowerment of Adolescent Artistic Style Development
The influence of identity development on the personal artistic style of adolescents has been absent from much of the literature on adolescent artistic development. This art-based qualitative research study explores the influence self-identity might have on the artistic style development of high school seniors. Through observations, interviews, and artwork this study explores student perspectives of identity and its influence on personal artmaking experiences. The results of this study demonstrated students’ varied understanding of their personal identities as empowering their artmaking activities through self-challenge, self-expression, and self-inspiration. The final results of the study were applied to an identity-empowered unit for art educators to use in fostering students’ connections between the concept of self and their developing sense of personal artistic voice.
